Woodwose
Woodwose
Woodwose (O.E. wuduwasa, 'wildman of the woods'): Formed in 2012 out of a passion for ancient, wild and exotic instruments such as hurdy gurdy, bagpipes, shawms, cittern, percussion, harps, recorders and whistles.
Originally a quartet and an offshoot of medieval/theatrical band Daughters of Elvin the band now has a flexible lineup built around the core of Steve Tyler and Katy Marchant. Recently we have been working with Portuguese percussionist Ricardo de Noronha and singer Katherine Christie Evans. A CD is available.
We are currently recording 14th century Italian music with the addition of santur/oud player Nuno Silva.
Some of these new tracks are featured on the video page. Collectively they draw their inspiration from the dark gothic era, European Folk music traditions and the voices of the ancestors whispering in the wind and rain of the moors and forests.
Woodwose have delighted audiences in the UK and abroad with their exciting and entertaining performances which juxtapose authentic medieval music with the band's own original compositions written for an array of exotic period instruments. They are equally at home playing at folk festivals, rock festivals, Early Music events and for French Bal.
